Road Walk

Return to Handler's Side

Walk Free Beside Handler

Stay Down in one Place

This has also been referred to as a Test 'A'

The dog shall be off lead and more than 10 paces away, upon instruction the dog will join back to the handlers side and both continue walking for 10 paces.

This exercise is similar to that of the Silver award, however changes of handler pace to slow and fast are also required

This is to show a dog can be kept close to the handler as may be necessary on a walk.

For approx 40 paces the dog must walk off lead at the handlers side, with changes of direction and other dogs walking on lead.

Advancing from the Silver stay this stay will be in the down position.

The handler will move away for two minutes.

Send the Dog to Bed

Standing approx 10 paces away the dog will be "sent to bed" by the handler, and stay until instructed.

This is an easy one to practise at home to make sure your dog knows his bed and enjoy going to bed.

Stop the Dog

The object of this exercise is to be able to stop the dog at a distance in an emergency.

Relaxed Settle

Isolation for a dog can lead to stress and anxiety so practising this exercise is very important as an owner may need to leave their dog unattended.

On a lead the dog should be fasten to a fixed point and the handler move out of sight for 2 minutes. The dog may be placed in a crate or car for this exercise.

This is not a "stay" and toys or food cannot be used.

To make sure your dog can be examined safely by a vet, when necessary and that the handler will be able to check for health problems such as ticks, fleas and lesions.

In this exercise you need to be able to show the dog will allow the examiner to inspect all areas including, mouth, teeth, eyes, ears, stomach, tail and feet.

Food Manners

A dog should be able to be fed in an orderly manner, without undue excitement.

The handler is expected to be able to offer food either by hand or bowl and have the dog wait for permission to eat. A three-five second pause is necessary.
